So what’s with the name? Make of it whatever you’d like. We’d like to think that Parnunu is a unique place, which deserved a unique name. Think of it as exciting, outlandish or maybe even a bit humorous—just think of it as anything but ordinary.

In 2010, Parnunu was started by Andy Otteman—a man driven by his passion for people and their careers. During his long career in the management ranks, Andy found that the most rewarding part of his job was helping others to succeed. When his career took an unexpected turn, it gave him an opportunity to step back and reflect on what he enjoyed most. The result was Parnunu—a place to help others prepare for their next career opportunity.

They say, “do something you love and you will never work a day in your life.” What they should have said was, “do something you love, but always be prepared for your next opportunity.”

When Andy Otteman unexpectedly lost his job, he wasn’t sure where to turn. There was always the exit package with career counseling and resume writing (not to mention the 12-step outline, detailing the emotional roller-coaster that could be expected). But even with all of this, Andy knew that looking for that next job would be a somewhat scary, and intimidating process.

His first step was to construct a resume, since he had never taken the time to do one before. Problem was, all his information was sitting on a corporate computer that he no longer had access to. Starting from scratch, he created a resume that he thought could set him apart from other prospective job seekers.

The next task was to post this resume on various careers sites. He found out quickly that he was one of thousands who would end up applying for the exact same job. Something was wrong with this process. All of these sites were completely impersonal and didn’t place value on the individual. He searched for something better but, in the end, came up empty-handed.

Frustrated, yet inspired by the nature of these career sites, Andy decided to create a place where people could showcase more than their information. Parnunu was born with the belief that individuals should be able to share their personal story, experience and value. It’s a place where companies could be introduced to a person—not just a document. It’s a place to not only store your resume, but prepare you for the future.
